DAB, FM Radio and Mobile Phone Network Drive Testing

We drive test VHF FM radio (88MHz to 108MHz), Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) radio and 2G (GSM, GPRS), 3G (UMTS) and 4G (LTE) mobile phone networks, providing customers with detailed reports of radio coverage and network performance statistics. For VHF FM radio broadcast services, field strength values and received audio quality can be graphically represented, identifying areas where radio coverage may require optimisation. DAB services can be investigated in a similar fashion and field strength values, signal-to-noise ratios and bit error rates can all be recorded providing network performance information. By measuring multiple transmissions, we have the ability to rank ‘best servers’. DAB measurements may be performed in accordance with the ‘Lee Sampling Criteria‘, from which short-term and long-term signal variation may be derived.

We also conduct detailed 2G (including GSM-R), 3G and 4G mobile network drive tests (signal surveys) using advanced Rohde & Schwarz radio signal processing hardware Rohde & Schwarz TSMA and signal processing software Rohde & Schwarz ROMES, providing network owners with detailed analysis of network performance and coverage. TETRA  / Airwave network surveys are also undertaken using the same equipment.
